#1 BATTERY OPERATED MINI FANS
Description of Product:
Personal fans, hand-held, battery operated, have a switch on the side to turn on
and off, have a string attached where person can put around their neck, and come
in assorted colors Why Fans Are a Hot Item: v
For your
customers: Just imagine a Fourth of July parade with people lined up in the
heat. Now picture a baseball
stadium on a 100 -degree day with no breeze. People can only fan themselves for
so long. They will be desperate to
cool down and will have to buy one of your easy to operate fans. v
For you:
There is no set up for you! The
fans come packaged with batteries included.
Let your customers install the batteries themselves.
Also, if you sell your fans for $4.00 a piece and you only invested $1.00
for the fan that is a $3.00 profit for you! Where to Buy Fans: Visit different stores and price their fans.
We found the best deal at our local dollar store.
For $1.00 we found fans that included batteries in the package.
You probably do not want to spend more than $2.00 per fan in order to
keep your costs down. Make sure you
include batteries with your fans. Step-By-Step Techniques of Selling Your Fans How to Sell Fans At Fairs and Parades: 1)
Check with your local government to see if you will need any special
license in order to sell products. 2)
Check on costs of renting a space at the fair to set up your products.
Find out if you need to bring your own table to display your products on
or if tables are provided. Bring a
chair or two so that you can sit down. 3)
Purchase your fans. You should buy as many as you think you can sell and
can afford to sell. For example, if
you bought 100 fans at the dollar store, you would be making a $100.00
investment. If you sold all 100
fans at a fair for $4.00, you would make $400.00 minus the $100.00 investment
and any set up fees. That’s not a
bad profit! 4)
Make a neat, professional looking sign to advertise your fans. For
example, you could say “Fans Sold Here. Get
a Cool Breeze Now. Only $4.00! ” You
may want to consider laminating your sign in case it gets wet.
Also laminating will help to preserve it longer so that you can reuse it
in the future. 5)
Prepare by going to the bank and getting plenty of one dollar bills,
quarters, five
dollar bills, ten dollar bills, and a few twenty dollar bills.
Have a container in which to put your money, preferably a container that
has dividers so that you can separate you money into stacks of 1s, 5s, etc.
6)
Plan to arrive at the fair/parade early to set up your table. On your
table you should display some of your fans neatly.
Take two of the fans out of their packaging and install their batteries.
These will be your sample fans. Use
one on yourself and stay cool! (We
will tell you what to do with the other sample fan #7).
Store the rest of the fans in a box underneath your table. As you sell
fans, restock your table with new fans from under the table.
7)
Have another person to help you man your table.
Not only does that afford opportunities to take a break, it also allows
you to mingle among the crowds and show off your fans.
You or your selling partner should walk around the fair with a sample fan
(this is the other fan that you set aside while setting up your table) and turn
it on to entice customers. Carry a
box full of fans to sell and have way to collect money, i.e. a fanny pack or a
money belt. If the fair also has a
parade, use that time to walk around and sell your fans.
During parades, people tend to stand or sit in one place so walk around
and sell your fans. 8)
Look like you are having a
great time and smile! How to Sell Fans At Sporting Events: 1)
Purchase your fans. When
deciding on how many fans to purchase, consider how many people typically attend
a sporting event. If you are
attending a college or professional football game, there will be thousands of
people so you will want to purchase more fans.
If you are attending a smaller event, you can purchase a fewer number of
fans. 2)
Prepare by going to the bank and getting plenty of one dollar bills,
quarters, five
dollar bills, ten dollar bills, and a few twenty dollar bills.
Have a container to put your money in, preferably one that has dividers
so that you can separate you money into stacks of 1s, 5s, etc.
3)
Arrive early to the sporting event.
4)
Make a neat, professional looking sign to advertise your fans. For
example, you could say “Fans Sold Here. Get
a Cool Breeze Now. Only $4.00! ” You
may want to consider laminating your sign in case it gets wet.
Also laminating will help to preserve it longer so that you can reuse it
in the future 5)
You can either station yourself in the parking lot or somewhere in front
of the stadium. If you are in the
parking lot, you could keep the fans in the trunk of your vehicle. Take one of
the fans out of the package and install the batteries.
This is your demonstration fan. Many
people will have to walk past you as they go into the sporting event.
If selling fans out of your trunk is not your style, you could set up a
small table. Just make sure it
isn’t blocking traffic. You could
also sell fans outside of the stadium. Set
up a small table and display your sign. 9)
If you use a table you should display some of your fans neatly. With the
rest of the fans, put them in a box underneath your table. As you sell fans, restock your table with new fans from under
the table. 10)
Smile and have fun! ITEM
#2 BOTTLED WATER
Description of product: Any type of bottled water
that you purchase at a store, i.e. spring water. The bigger the bottle of water, the better!
A 16-25 oz. bottle would be the standard. Why water is a hot item:
v
For
customers: I can’t think of anyone who would not desire an iced cold water on
a hot, humid day! v
For you:
Many events do not allow people to carry personal coolers due to safety issues.
If people buy bottled water from vendors in the stadium, chances are that
they will pay 2-3 times what you are charging for bottled water. v
Where
to Buy Bottled Water:
You can purchase bottled water at wholesale clubs for around $6-$7 for a case of
about 24 bottles. Also, many dollar
stores sell 25 oz. bottles at 3 for $1.00.
You will want to keep your costs in the neighborhood of 10 to 35 cents
per bottle of water. Make sure you
buy at least 16 oz. bottles of water. Step-By-Step
Techniques of Selling Your Bottle Water How to Sell Bottled Water At Fairs and Parades: 1)
Check with your local government to see if a license is required to sell
bottled water. 2)
Check on the costs of renting a space at the fair to set up your
products. Purchase your bottled water. Use
your own judgement when deciding how much to purchase.
Think about how much you want to invest and also how much you can
actually sell. For example, if you
bought 100 bottles at the dollar store at 3 for $1.00, you would spend only
$33.33. If you sold the
water for $1.00 per bottle, you make $100.00 minus the $33.33 expense so
your profit would be roughly $66.67! 3)
Make a neat, professional looking sign to advertise your water.
For example, you could say “Ice Cold Water Sold Here.
Only $1.00 for 25 oz. bottle!” (This
is actually a bargain for customers because other vendors will sell smaller
bottles for a higher cost). You
might want to consider laminating your sign in case it gets wet.
Also laminating will help you preserve your sign longer so that you can
reuse it in the future. 4)
Prepare by going to the bank and getting plenty of one dollar bills,
quarters, five dollar bills, ten dollar bills, and a few twenty dollar bills.
Have a container to put your money in, preferably one that has dividers
so that you can separate you money into stacks of 1s, 5s, etc. 5)
You will need to purchase or borrow a couple of large coolers in which to
store your bottled water. Since you
are advertising ice cold water, you must sell ice cold water. On the day of the
event you will need to buy several large bags of ice from a grocery store or a
convenience store. Put as many
bottles of water in the cooler as will fit and cover with the ice.
The rest of the case of bottled waters should be stored next to the
cooler. Every time you sell a
bottle of water from the cooler, you need to replace it with one of the waters
from the case. Another idea is to freeze some of the bottles the night
before the event and give your customers the option to buy frozen water. That
will also keep your supply of bottles cold.
6)
Here’s another idea: If you have another business, how about doing some
free advertising on the water bottles? Just
stick a label advertising your business onto each water bottle or tape business
cards on the bottom of the water bottles. Earn
some extra income for your other business.

Enjoy your money-making potential ITEM #3: UMBRELLAS
Description of Product:
Personal sized umbrellas in an array of colors Why Umbrellas Are a Hot Item: v
For
Customers: If it is raining, customers will be grateful that you are selling
umbrellas so they won’t get soaking wet on their long walk back to their
vehicle. Also on extremely hot
sunny days, people sometimes use umbrellas as shade.
v
For You:
Thunderstorms seem to come with little or no warning and people will not even
consider bringing an umbrella with them. A
personal example for me was when I had to buy an umbrella from a vendor on my
honeymoon last year. My husband and
I were walking around a downtown area and our car was blocks away. We came unprepared and did not bring an umbrella.
Luckily, one of the stores (which happened to be a socks store) also
carried umbrellas. And they
displayed a sign on their door advertising that they sold umbrellas.
Other stores did that as well. We
paid $8.00 for an average umbrella. What
a great way to make a profit off of us unprepared tourists!
Also many sporting events do not cancel their games due to rain. Where To Buy Umbrellas:
Check different stores and price their umbrellas.
Dollar Stores often have decent umbrellas for only $1.00. Step-By-Step Techniques of Selling Umbrellas How to Sell Umbrellas at Fairs and Parades: 1)
Check with your local
government to see if a license is required to sell umbrellas 2)
Check on the costs of renting a space at the fair to set up your
products. Find out if you need to
bring your own table to display your products or if tables are provided. 3)
Purchase your umbrellas. Use
your best judgement when deciding how many you will purchase.
Buy only a few if the chances for rain are slim and buy a lot if there is
a large chance of rain. Buy an
assortment of colors and give your customers a choice of colors to buy.
4)
Make a neat, professional looking sign to advertise your umbrellas.
Umbrellas will sell themselves if it is raining!
All you need to is sign to advertise them.
For example, you could say “Umbrellas Sold Here. For $5.00.”
If you know there is a chance of rain (even a slight one), you could
write on the sign “Chance of Showers this afternoon. Better be safe than sorry.”
You might want to consider laminating your sign in case it gets wet.
Also laminating will help you preserve your sign longer so that you can
reuse it in the future. 5)
Prepare by going to the bank and getting plenty of one- dollar bills,
quarters, five-dollar bills, ten-dollar bills, and a few twenty-dollar bills.
Have a container to put your money in, preferably one that has dividers
so that you can separate you money into stacks of 1s, 5s, etc. 6)
Keep your umbrellas in a box behind your table.
Remember if it is not raining, chances are that people will not buy them.
But if you know that the forecast calls for rain, display the umbrellas
on your table and watch the customers flock to your table.
7)
Give your customers a choice of what color umbrella they would like to
buy 8)
